Juror's Statement

It's negotiation. That constant balance of where to step, where to place one's heart, how to remember, what to remember, what to move toward. The photographers selected for this exhibition notice the literal, as well as metaphorical, lines. Gorgeous alliance of geometry and light are pronounced in some of the images, while narrative of boundaries, or genealogy, or caught moments inhabit others. But each of these photographs celebrates noticing where one stands. And in a world where a maddening pace and difficult turns of life events often wrap constrictingly around and around a day, these artists pull on that thread, loosen the bind.

Call for Entries

Lines. They are all around us, Look up. Look down. Real lines are everywhere, from telephone wires to sidewalk crevasses. But there are metaphorical lines in our lives, too. Lines drawn in the sand, punch lines, age lines. For this juried exhibition, we sought photographs in any style or medium featuring lines of any kind.

Juror Kirsten Rian selected forty photos for exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery and an additional thirty-five photos for the gallery's Online Annex. All selected work will be included in a full-color exhibition catalog available for purchase. To help artists defray costs, PhotoPlace Gallery offers to mat and frame work selected for exhibition free of charge, providing artists print their images to our pre-cut mat and frame sizes.
